2.3. The Maltese and policy

As you have probably not heard: there were elections in Malta at the weekend of 8 and 9 March 2008. Maybe you've heard but that Malta has the highest election rate in addition to Australia (where Australia mandatory Elections) .. pronounced in Malta about 95% of all Maltese choose.

It begins already with the fact that there is no absentee voting, which means there are many Maltese fly home (such as Australia or Canada or United Kingdom).

to the parties (NOTE: it may cause a brain node):

there are 4 parties (Nationalist PN-blue, Labour MLP-red, Alternativa Demokratika AD - AN and Azzionji National Baptist - green - purple). The party was in government, the nationalists with President Gonzi. Which are actually in the classic sense, a conservative party (ÖVP), but they have left values such as the EU, equality, etc. The Labour Party is left, but has the right values (out of EU nationals). Alternativa Demokratika which has been trying for 20 years to get into Parliament and represents the green values, but not an education program (and I quote Malta) and the contractor is just a party, at 1 Takes up time and is elected by the hunters .. should be the very crass.

The elections were already in Malta since I've touted are also constantly on the agenda in the lectures (doofes face of Erasmus students and already is explained .. they are good in that respect) and since the election posters on are Maltese, we do not know exactly what's at stake. The campaign is down so that one of "mass meetings" take, you drive around with the car and (especially in the tunnel) rumhupt with the horn.

A week before the election starts the trouble .. Workers lay down their work, the Maltese are getting nervous ..

Then comes the big day: SATURDAY .. suddenly you see the hotel's cleaning lady very chic with a Sunday dress and no one is on the road .. the only ones who were out in Paceville (or mostly) are Erasmus students have been * ahem *

Then is Sunday: On this day, the result is announced.

We got the tip in the Spinola Bay to go and what we did .. then we heard the party. You have to imagine the so: (: wave the flags, even the grandmothers in particular on the way back), young people with PN flags (Gonzi and towels), a huge party celebrating a motorcade after another. Then, the result was announced with "The winner takes it all" or some other song and have all poured out of the pubs and bars on the streets, jumping around, drink alcohol, and just celebrate the victory of the nationalists! The Erasmus students are of course inside the middle and so danced Austria, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Spain, Italy, France and Malta, combining to Gonzi song that is by chance by Modern Talking!

Well .. s see how it tomorrow (Monday) goes on - I will have a lecture? Explanation: all transactions have to! Reason: elections! Real reason: to drunk.
Malta - a little world of its own!
